Privacy Policy

Al-Mawārīth is built to be private by design: the calculator runs entirely in your browser, there are no accounts, and we ask for your details only when you choose to request a scholar review.

Last updated: 19 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Al-Mawārīth (“we”, “us”, “the Service”) collects when you use the calculator and website at fareez.dev/mcalc, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

Information you provide

You can use the calculator and read every page without giving us any personal information. We collect personal information only when you actively submit it:

  • Scholar review requests. If you request a scholar or Al-Mawārīth expert review, we collect the details you enter in the form — such as your name, email address, your chosen reviewer, any special circumstances you select, and any message or estate details you include — so that we can respond to you and arrange the review.
  • Correspondence. If you contact us directly, we keep the content of that correspondence so we can reply and keep a record of the request.

Calculator inputs stay in your browser

The estate figures, debts, bequests and heirs you enter into the calculator are processed locally in your browser to compute the shares. These inputs are not transmitted to us or stored on our servers — unless you deliberately include them in a scholar review request that you submit. Reports you download (PDF) are generated on your own device.

Information collected automatically

  • Privacy-focused analytics. We use a self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics tool to understand aggregate, anonymous usage (for example, which pages are visited). It does not use advertising cookies and does not build a profile of you across other websites.
  • Approximate location for currency. To show prices in a sensible currency, the site may make a request to an IP-geolocation provider (ipapi.co) which sees your IP address and returns a likely currency or country. We do not store your IP address for this purpose, and you can change the currency manually at any time.
  • Standard server logs. Like most websites, our hosting and content-delivery providers may automatically log technical data such as IP address, browser type and time of request for security and reliability.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your scholar review requests and arrange the review and report.
  • To operate, maintain, secure and improve the Service.
  • To display content and pricing appropriately for your region.
  • To comply with legal obligations where applicable.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Third-party services we rely on

We use a small number of reputable providers to run the Service. Your information may be processed by them only to the extent needed to provide their function:

  • Cloud hosting & forms (Amazon Web Services) — to host the site and to receive and store scholar review requests and notify us by email.
  • IP-geolocation (ipapi.co) — to suggest a currency based on approximate location.
  • Fonts & libraries (Google Fonts, jsDelivr CDN) — to load typefaces and the PDF library your browser uses to build reports.
  • Analytics (self-hosted, privacy-friendly) — for anonymous, aggregate usage statistics.

These providers have their own privacy practices. Loading resources from them means your browser shares standard technical information (such as your IP address) with those providers.

Cookies

The Service does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may store minor local preferences (such as your selected currency) on your own device; these are not shared with us.

Data retention

We keep scholar review requests and related correspondence only as long as needed to provide the review, maintain our records, and meet legal requirements, after which we delete or anonymise them. Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information you submit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, or to ask us to delete a scholar review request you submitted, please contact us (see below). You can also use the calculator without submitting any personal information at all.

Children's privacy

The Service is intended for adults planning or administering an estate and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International use

The Service may be operated and hosted in a country different from your own. By using it, you understand that your information may be processed in those locations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
